3. John Collins Pays Tribute to Wright Brothers

During the Slam Dunk Contest, John Collins (Hawks) paid tribute to the history of the 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend’s host state (North Carolina) by honoring the Wright Brothers. Speaking of the Wright Brothers, brothers Orville and Wilber were responsible for developing and flying the world’s first airplane. The historic flight took place at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. In the Slam Dunk Contest, the event organizers built a wooden airplane that is the quarter size of a basketball court. Are Grizzlies Close to Trading Mike Conley to Jazz? What is the Latest Involving Their Ongoing Trade Talks? When is the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline?

Hello Everyone! Welcome to Sports Teller! Today, we will be going over the latest news on Are Grizzlies Close to Trading Mike Conley to Jazz? Without further adieu, let’s begin!

Are Grizzlies Close to Trading Mike Conley to Jazz?

With less than 24 hours away from the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline, the Memphis Grizzlies could be on the verge of trading one of their best centers in franchise history.

As of Wednesday, February 6, 2019

According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the Utah Jazz are interested in acquiring PG Mike Conley from Memphis. Jones also stated that Utah gave the Grizzlies a final package that includes expiring contracts, first round picks, and second round picks. However, Jones said that when the Grizzlies asked about possibly getting PG Dante Exum in return, Utah refused. Fortunately, the Jazz would be willing to send both Derrick Favors and Ricky Rubio to the Grizzlies. What this whole thing means is that there is still a chance Mike Conley gets traded by the NBA Trade Deadline. Conley will become a free agent in the Summer of 2021 and he has played for the Grizzlies in his entire 12-year NBA career.

The Jazz (31-24) are currently in playoff position as the seventh seed in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies (22-33) own the second worst record in the Western Conference. Conley is not the only Grizzlies player in trade talks as Memphis traded C Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors.

The 2019 NBA Trade Deadline is on Thursday, February 7 at 3:00 P.M. EDT/12:00 P.M. PDT.

Before we can detail those reasons, we must go over the current situation involving Jimmy Butler demanding a trade as well as his career profile. Without further adieu, let’s begin!

5 Reasons Why Knicks are Favorites to Land Jimmy Butler

What is the Current Trade Situation Involving Jimmy Butler?

The Athletic, ESPN, and and Sports Illustrated reported that Timberwolves G and pending free agent Jimmy Butler is seeking a trade from Minnesota. Those sources also said that Butler created a list in terms of which NBA teams he would like to be traded to. The teams reportedly on the list are the following: Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, and New York Knicks. All three teams will have salary cap room to obtain Butler’s services in 2019, whether the transaction takes place via trade or free agency. The news came just a couple months removed from the Timberwoles’ first playoff appearance in over a decade. Jimmy Butler will become a free agent following the conclusion of the 2018-2019 NBA Season.

WAIT! HOLD ON! There is a Catch Regarding Jimmy Butler’s Trade Requests

As the Timberwolves are preparing for training camp as well as the preseason in the coming weeks, the team has no current intent to trade Jimmy Butler. According to ESPN, the Knicks recently said in a fan Q/A event the team would rather obtain Butler via free agency instead of trading away certain prospects to acquire him.

Jimmy Butler’s NBA Career Profile

  • 4-Time All-Star
  • Won 2015 NBA’s Most Improved Player
  • 4-Time NBA All-Defensive Second Team
  • 2-Time All-NBA Third Team

  • Drafted out of Marquette University

Why Are the Knicks Better Suited for Jimmy Butler but Not the Clippers or Nets?

Even though the Nets, Knicks, and Clippers have salary cap room to land Jimmy Butler, there’s only one team that has competitive advantage. The New York Knicks are so far the only qualified team on the list that has reported plans in terms of free agency and roster upgrades. Now, many fans and experts might be wondering: Why Are the Knicks Better Suited for Jimmy Butler but Not the Clippers or Nets? That’s when the 5 Reasons Why Knicks are Favorites to Land Jimmy Butler! 1. Similar to the Clippers and Nets, the Knicks have salary cap space to obtain Jimmy Butler as well as other pending free agents.

2. According to Yahoo Sports, the Knicks are making the pursuit to sign Celtics PG Kyrie Irving in 2019 their top priority.

3. In order to make room for Jimmy Butler and possibly Irving on the roster, the Knicks would cut ties with the under-performing Joakim Noah

4. If the acquisitions of Jimmy Butler and Kyrie Irving happen, then the Knicks will have their own “Big 3” along with Kristaps Porzingis.

5. Unlike the Nets and Clippers, the Knicks appears to have a clearer plan for Summer 2019 as they are likely to buyout Joakim Noah to save more room on the salary cap. In fact, New York would be a good destination for Butler based on the team’s plan to upgrade its roster.
