The History of Washington Huskies Football at Husky Stadium
With the College Football Season around the corner, the Washington Huskies are ready for kick-off! The men in Purple and Gold have been playing at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium since the early-1920’s. Speaking of Husky Stadium, the venue can hold at least 70,000 fans in attendance. The Huskies football venue is about a 20-25 minute drive from Downtown Seattle (home of the NFL’s Seahawks, MLB’s Mariners, NHL’s Kraken, and MLS’ Sounders FC). Husky Stadium is also located on the University of Washington campus. The school’s football stadium is located close to Union Bay, so fans can travel to the game by boat.
Since its opening, the Huskies football venue has witnessed some of the greatest college football players and coaches in history. Those players are the following: Chris Petersen (head coach), QB Jake Browning, OT Lincoln Kennedy, WR Dante Pettis, S Budda Baker, Don James (head coach), QB Marques Tuiasosopo, and many more! The men in Purple and Gold last won a National Championship in 1991 (shared with Miami-FL). Also, the Huskies reached the College Football Playoffs during the 2016 season. Washington has won two Pac-12 Championships in 2016 and 2018.
